Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and PairPal about using the PairPal app and website. By creating an account you agree to these terms and to the Community Guidelines, which are part of them. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
Who can use PairPal
PairPal is for students aged 13 and over. If you are under the age at which you can agree to these terms where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to them for you. You must give your real date of birth: it decides which age group you meet, and it can’t be changed later in the app.
Your account
Use your own name, your own photos and accurate information. One person, one account. Keep your password private and tell us at pairpal@gymshackles.com if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour
PairPal has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You must not post or send anything that bullies, harasses, threatens or demeans someone; hate speech; sexual content or nudity; violent or self-harm content; spam or advertising; other people’s private information; or anything illegal. Everything the Community Guidelines forbid is forbidden here too.
Anyone can report a profile, message or chat, and block a student, from inside the app. The PairPal team reviews every report within 24 hours. We remove content that breaks these rules and can suspend or permanently remove the accounts responsible, without notice, and report serious cases to the authorities.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give PairPal a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process and show it to the people you share it with, only to run and improve PairPal. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies kept for a resolved report or in rolling backups for a limited time. Only share content you have the right to share.
Test profiles
PairPal includes clearly labelled test profiles. They are not real students: they like you back, reply automatically and post scores so you can try every feature. They are marked “Test profile” wherever they appear.
Staying safe
PairPal does not run background checks. A grey tick only shows that someone confirmed a school email address, and a gold tick that the PairPal team checked a student ID in person. If you decide to meet a study partner, meet in a public place such as a school or library, and tell a parent, teacher or friend where you will be.
Early access
Until PairPal opens to everyone, joining needs an access password. Features may change during early access, and PairPal may pause, change or stop parts of the service.
Ending your use
You can stop using PairPal and delete your account at any time in Profile → Settings → Delete account. We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms or the Community Guidelines, or if we need to protect students or PairPal.
No guarantees
PairPal is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about matches, other students’ behaviour, study results or uninterrupted availability, and we are not liable for indirect losses or for what other students say or do. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that cannot be limited.
The App Store
If you downloaded PairPal from Apple’s App Store: these terms are between you and PairPal, not Apple, and PairPal, not Apple, is responsible for the app and its content. Your licence to use the app is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the App Store Terms of Service allow. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you may notify Apple for a refund of any purchase price, and Apple has no other warranty obligation. PairPal, not Apple, is responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance and consumer protection claims, and for any claim that the app infringes someone’s intellectual property. You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or on a U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Changes and contact
